Two-Factor Validation to Secure your Website

One of our safety tips is two factor validation. The concept is simple. To access a to a website or system, there are two steps. Normally (in gmail and similar) the system makes use of a second authentication through the mobile. Once you enter the password you are sent to your mobile phone a code to access the system or web. This gives rise to two things:

  • It is much more complicated for the attacker to hack an account since he not only needs the password, but also access to the mobile device
  • If you give someone access to you account, or you share your access with another person (the least recommended in the world) even if you give someone that information, you are not exposed. Without your phone, you will not be able to access.

It depends on the website, but this double authentication can be taught for your users. However, we are used to this process in payment gateways, we understand it and we associate it with data protection and security. Why not do the same on your website?

And is that today there are a thousand ways for someone to find a password and the security of your web is compromised:

  • Through a brute force attack
  • If someone hacks your device or laptop, or you lose it, once you access your content, he will have access to all your passwords
  • The attacker hacks your password through another website. If you use the password for several websites, you will have access to all
  • Your laptop has been infected with a virus that captures everything you type on your keyboard

How to implement two-factor validation

And is that one of the most common causes in the infection of a WordPress, Joomla, Drupal or custom web is the malicious obtaining of access data. For theft, brute force, social engineering or other causes. The result we already know, malware infections or phishing.

We provide some plugins to install this WordPress on your website:

And in all other cases:

  • In the case of Joomla, here you will find different ways to activate this type of validation
  • In this article you will find how to do double authentication in Drupal.
